Learning about history is an incredibly important part of any child’s education. This is just as true for roadschoolers as it is for anyone else, but kids who learn on the road have the unique opportunity to learn about history through hands-on experiences, something that definitely makes the subject more enjoyable.
This month the Explorers took full advantage of their situation and got to work learning some new things about United States history.
What We Did
Throughout the month of March, our Explorers read books about history, watched movies and videos based on historical events, and discussed important parts of US history. They took field trips, did hands-on activities at home, and even played games related to the history of our country. All of the Explorers who earned this badge learned something new and exciting about history.
Every Explorer who participated posted their completed project to the Explorers Facebook page. This gave other Explorers a chance to admire their skills, and gave us the opportunity to award them their United States History pin and certificate!
What We Learned
The Explorers program hopes to help kids find new interests and learn things that will help them throughout their lives. To earn this badge, participants dove into US history, gathering important information, learning how to do research, teaching others what they found out, and finding ways to make learning fun and exciting.
All of these are skills that can be used into adulthood, and many Explorers found they were quite interested in learning more about US history!
