The universe is a pretty amazing place full of all kinds of fascinating things. Because the Fulltime Families Explorers are all about learning new things, it only makes sense that we would dive into Astronomy, so that’s what we did. The FtF Explorers spent the month of June learning about the stars, planets, and anything and everything space related in order to earn their Astronomy pin.
What We Did
Throughout the month of June, the Explorers read, listened to talks, and watched videos about the stars and planets. They learned about the position of the planets in our solar system and the stories behind many of the constellations found in our night sky. They also gathered information on what it’s like to be an astronaut, and some Explorers decided that they might like to be astronauts when they grow up. Finally, some explorers chose to learn about the phases of the moon.
To earn their pins, participants sent in videos and photos of their space themed projects. These included solar system models, constellation crafts, and phases of the moon cookies, among other things.
What We Learned
The Explorers program hopes to help kids discover new interests, so they may find what they are truly passionate about. This month’s project helped many Explorers uncover a passion for the wonders of space, and we imagine astronomy will be a topic of discussion for a long time to come.
